Now one man is at the pinnacle, as a climber might sit upon the summit of Everest.  Inauguration Day will be the best day of his life, but there is no where to go but down.  Whether history will vilify or revere him, only time will tell us.  I DO believe that psychic transformations occur in the midst of archetypal events such as weddings, funerals and inaugurations.  We will all watch for symbols and signs of that transformation with interest, but he will have to earn our Trust.

“I must say that the man we call modern … is rather the man who stands upon a peak, or at the very edge of the world, the abyss of the future before him, above him the heavens, and below him the whole of mankind with a history that disappears in primeval mists….

“The man who has attained consciousness of the present is solitary… The values and strivings of those past worlds no longer interest him save from the historical standpoint.  Thus he has become “unhistorical” in the deepest sense and has estranged himself from the mass of men who live entirely within the bounds of tradition. Indeed, he is completely modern only when he has come to the very edge of the world, leaving behind him all that has been discarded and outgrown, and acknowledging that he stands for the Nothing out of which All may grow.”

Civilization in Transition, Volume 10 of The Collected Works of C.G. Jung, ¶¶149-150.

Does the new President of the United States meet Dr. Carl G. Jung’s definition of a Modern Man?  Yes, assuredly he does, if we only give him the benefit of the doubt that he is not mentally ill.  It will be up to the men closest to him to make that judgment, now that they have assumed the responsibility for the well being of all Americans, and tens of millions of other people around the world.  The talking heads of cable news and fake newsmakers can cluck all they want, but for 99.999% of all of us, we can do nothing.

From my perspective, I acknowledge the possibility of a psychic transformation in all human beings.

On Inauguration Day 2017, there is no doubt that the new President will undergo a profound psychic transformation, the likes of which have not been seen for generations.  It won’t be on public view.  It is a transformation of the heart, which can be shattering to an individual psyche if it is not understood.

The psychic transformation to be achieved is covered admirably in Episode 5 of the new Netflix original series The Crown.  The following is a 34-second excerpt to give you a sense of what I’m talking about.

One dear friend says that we must all “give him a chance.”  That would be all well and good but for the fact that “he has estranged himself from the mass of men” at every strata of society.  Oh yes, he still has a following in the tens of millions among the great mass of Americans who elected him, but having seen his performance in the transition, many of those may be having second thoughts. The swamp they thought would be drained appears that it has many more monsters than it previously had, and there is no suggestion that they will exercise any self-restraint or have the interests of all Americans at heart.

As President Harry Truman had it regarding the responsibility of The President of the United States, “The buck stops here!”  It is up to the person occupying the office to behave in a manner that will reflect his true Self, and thereby assure how history will remember his time in office, for better or for worse.  I do not envy the new President.  He has a tall order, and the very future of The United States hangs in the balance.

No, I will not be giving him the benefit of the doubt for 100 days, as my friend has urged.  The German people lost control of their country in less than 60 days, and the Third Reich emerged.  It took the Second World War and a lot of pain and suffering before order was returned.  The parallels to our new President’s rise to power are too raw for me or any American to let their guard slip for a moment.

Trust must be earned!!!  The new President has not earned the trust of the majority of the American People.  When he does, I will give him the benefit of the doubt.  Until then, it seems to be wise to be wary.

My conservative friends probably expect me to come out with tirades against the new Administration. They will expect me to analogize The President to the “devil” of Revelation 12:12. No, I will leave that to other men and women, who have a broader audience.

No, he is not that “devil” at all.  Rather, he is the perfect Faustian man, the culmination of the psychopathic Faustian men like you and me, who have over the past 500 years since the advent of “The Enlightenment,” sold our Souls to one devil or another, in order to have our gaudy homes and fancy cars.  We are all complicit.  We need to examine ourselves.

Dr. Edward Edinger gave an extremely prophetic talk to the San Diego Friends of Jung on January 20, 1988, when he exactly described the Faustian man, and effectively predicted our new President.  Whether his true Fate will turn out the way Faust’s did only time will tell.  But all of us need to examine ourselves, and understand how we have contributed to the current state of affairs. Most importantly listen from 5:00 into the recording,

Fundamentalist Christians may be particularly interested in the section beginning at 36:00 to understand the advent of The Antichrist and the diabolical Faustian Man, which we all are to one degree or another if we can read this essay.
